Some basic yoga poses for beginners

Child Pose:

1. Sit on your knees on the mat with your palms resting on thighs. Your feet should be together with your buttocks resting on them.

2. Take a deep breath and start bending towards your knees. Exhale in a controlled manner as you move forward.

3. The aim is to touch the ground with your forehead. You might not be able to accomplish it initially but bend down as far as possible without hurting yourself. With practice you should be able to touch the ground and if not, it's not that big of an issue. Hold this position as long as you can comfortably.

4. Repeat this while breathing from your nose.

Mountain Pose:

1. Stand on your feet with them touching each other. Keep your back straight and arms pressed into your sides.

2. Your thigh, buttocks and stomach muscles should be tightened while doing this pose. The weight of your body should be balanced evenly on your body.

3. Inhale and bend backwards forming an arch on your back. Go as far as you can without hurting yourself.

4. Now hold this position while holding your breath as long as you can. Now come back to initial position while exhaling smoothly.

5. Repeat this step till it is fine with you.
